Our first house guest arrives tomorrow! This fact very quickly put readying the guest room at the top of out list. So last week we got to work making some improvements to the room.
First, a few before photos.
I love that the guest room has it's own en-suite bathroom. It's pink, and needs updating, but for now it's a lovely thing to be able to offer our guests their own space.
Most of what we did in this first round is cosmetic. There is a plan to completely renovate the bathroom and change out the flooring, but that won't happen for a while. For now, we tried to make it as comfortable, inviting and stylish as possible.
One of the things that had the biggest impact was changing the ceiling fan. We swapped out a black fan for a white one. In a room with a ceiling height of only 8 feet the white feels lighter and less imposing than black. It almost disappears.
A few other design choices include, mixing modern and classic pieces. The headboard, floor lamp, ceiling fan, and a few of the accessories have clean, modern lines. I then mixed in some classic pieces like the library table, mirror, rug and night stand. I love mixing periods and styles. I think it keeps the design exciting and unexpected. Considering color is also an important part of the room. The base palate is neutral, white, and grey and then the art, pillows and books all feature bright saturated color.
In the bathroom there is also a mixed of modern details like the art, vanity light, knobs and toilet paper holders with classic elements like the waffle shower curtain, tiny embellished soap and french vintage glass tumblers. The color palate in this room had to work with the existing pink tile so I chose all black and white art to contrast the blush tones and make it all feel updated.
This fun video I put together gives you a little peak into my process. I hope you enjoy it and I hope you'll come visit!!
