Valentine's Day: Celebrations and Traditions

At our house holiday's and traditions are something we are trying to make more of a big deal about. We've always been a little lax about such things. We don't exchange gifts or do flowers but now that we have Helen it feels like starting some traditions is something we want to do more of as a family. We try to celebrate the everyday and make ordinary moments special, but I'm making an effort to try to also bring a little something special to holidays.

Valentine's Day is next week so I made some heart shaped sandwich cookies for the occasion! Aren't they adorable?  The chocolate one's taste a little like oreo cookies. They do take a bit of effort but are so worth it. We are saving a few to eat on Valentine's Day but the rest I packaged in little clear cellophane bags to give to a few mom's I've become friends with here. Sometimes a small gesture is all it takes to let someone know how thankful you are to have them in your life.

I hope you have a lovely Valentine's Day filled with love and heart shaped cookies!

It's been unseasonably warm here so the day I made the cookies we sat out on our new outdoor sofa and enjoyed a few with a glass of sparkling water and blood orange. The colors just make the mood feel romantic! And because blood orange is in season right now, it's the perfect addition to any Valentine's Day celebration.
